New year 2014 customary post

I think its time again for the obligatory new year blog post :) this time around i think ive got a lot more positive things to say than i did years ago! Many things happened and many things too are made to happen - thats a far better way of saying what went through in 2013. A few of the important highlights was that i bought a house (again) and got married! What a way to end the year with a high note! While sometimes we take things for granted, yet again my brothers have proven their presence in my life and they have earned a whole new level of respect from me. September was Fete's first anniversary, and i hope for many more years to come! At the same time the dog we decided to foster into our family turns 1 this year! There were some good things, probably not very major and so i couldn't remember all of them - and the same goes for the bad things most of them are not significant, which is a very good thing. Back then i used to be more affected by bad things that come but i believe with some realization that you probably have to move on, then the bad things don't feel so bad! With that said, I welcome 2014 with an open heart, whether good or bad, I'll face them wih a little bit more guts. I like this quote from Zig Ziglar that goes something like "FEAR has two meanings: Forget Everything And Run or Face Everything And Rise, the choice is yours" Last but not least, a note to self and anyone who agrees: stay positive, spread positivity in everything you do and everything around you, and keep motivating those around you. What keeps people going is positivity. As Ziglar other quote reads like this "they say that motivation doesn't last, so does bathing. Thats why we recommend it more than once a day" Happy New Year and I wish all of you a wonderful time ahead! *** If theres a few things i learn about fashion in 2013 it would be a couple of things: 1. The difference between brogues and wingtip! I have always been a fan of shoes - but more so dressier shoes. Ive found my love for how extensive they can be. Ive always have the problem of distinguishing between a brogue and a wingtip. And now i know. Any shoes that have holes punched into them regardless a derby, an oxford or even a wingtip is a brogue. And a wingtip on the other hand a shoe that has the toe cap in the shape of W and this can either be a derby or an oxford. 2. Spread and point collars: i realize that most shirts we find off the shelf are in point collars - which is mostly in my wardrobe too, recently there is a resurfacing of spread collars which mean the tip of the collar if the collar is spread then the further away the tip is from each other. Its a shame its not easily available, unless you tailor it. 3. How to correcty use the iron correctly on different types of clothing items. I recently learned the correct way to iron your shirt and press your pants. When ironed / pressed correctly, you would give more appreciation to that shirt or pants youre wearing. Due to bad care and method, the collars always look soft and flat - and as one Of the sartorialist said, "like a bad frame that takes the pleasure away from viewing the picture, a bad collar reflects poorly on that face that sits above it" the collar sits closely to ones face and it could easily be the next thing a person sees when he/she greets you, so tske good care of it! Likewise, for pants, you do not iron it, but you press it so that you get better creases. 4. How to fold a shirt in 5 seconds! You'll appreciate folding shirts alot more when you finally learn about thos :). Look it up on youtube! So there, the four things i learn about becoming a better gentleman!
