Just Be Yourself

Crossfit @ Pushmore Gym

What is Crossfit all about? How does it work? After many positive feedbacks about this new fitness regime, I'll briefly explain what it is here.

First off, how do traditional weight lifting help? There are many methods of weight lifting, but the most common goal is for body building. To have a better body, to be in shape. To the girls, no, cardio alone would not give you a good shape. What it will do for you is shed fat off the body hence the slimmer figure.

For guys, on the other hand, traditional weight lifting method usually targets at specific body parts, for instance, working out the shoulders, and chest on monday, rest on tuesday, workout biceps and triceps on wednesday, rest on thursday and work out the lower body on Friday. Probably cardio on saturday or sunday. If the diet goes well, and the workouts work for you, you'll gain mass and get a lean body in no time. Well, give it a couple of months. ;p

I used to do that. Its very simple, really. But I was training on my own, and I was stuck with the same workouts over and over. My workouts were very redundant, and after awhile I hit my plateau. The weakness with this kind of workout is that, you have a limit. You can keep adding weights, but you can't go on forever. You train on all these power lifts but the work outs are very repetitive. Therefore, at the end of the day, you refuse to change.

Now, how does crossfit work? First of all, Crossfit does not only train on one particular aspect of fitness, its a it covers 360* of every element of fitness. Firstly, many of the workouts are focused on training the core, and not on a specific body part. Secondly, the training are organized, ie we train on circuits. Workouts will be combined in a way which represents different sense of fitness. For instance, some circuits are designed to challenged muscle endurance (doing high reps with heavy weights, maybe for max reps or fastest time). Some circuits are made up of workouts that challenges strength, some on explosive strength or endurance.

Crossfit works because there is no constants. You keep changing the workouts, that way your body will never get used to. That is how it works, relate it to real life; when you keep doing the same routines over and over again, you'll be adept at it, you may work things out efficiently, but you may not improve. In other words, if you are given different jobs everyday, you see it as a challenge rather than pursuing a routine. That, is the same way our body works. The key here is to never keep things the same. That's why crossfit works.

In traditional workout, we only lift weights that body builders lift. Famous examples, Bench press, military press, arm curls, up right rows, pull ups. In crossfit, we focus in all types of lifts and workouts. We do not limit our workouts, we get the best from all kinds of fitness regimes, be it olympic lifts, body building lifts, sports training, basic fitness moves, rock climbing trainings, and some gymnastic workouts. By not limiting, crossfit enables every part of our body, be it the big muscles or small muscles to be worked out.

Other organizations or communities which practices and find that crossfit is useful are:-

The Navy Seals (of which are practicing crossfit as the fitness regime). For Free Running/ Yamakasi/ Parkour. Many workouts in crossfit are fundamental to the movements of parkour. Other than that, many fitness freaks have already seen the benefits of crossfit and are already practicing this.

Just FYI, Pushmore is the only crossfit certified gym in Malaysia. It will soon be affiliated into the crossfit community.

And... the credit goes to Alicia Cheong Su Kin! for helping me identify the Ikea table from Ikea.com.my! But I did not in the end buy the one that you shown me, as you have conned me into believing there is a black table for the smaller size! But nevertheless, thank you so much for your help! Don't worry, I've carved your name on my table as a token of appreciation! Thank you! Thank you!

Oh, other than that, I have also customized my own wardrobe using a few unused small cabinets and turned it into an IKEA like wardrobe! but much cheaper and more chapalang! My room is now officially colored in the shades of black and maroon!
