无论是开心还是难过我的爱一直不变
It is because of Jim Carrey that I wanna post this entry today. I think it has been more than a month since I've updated anything in my blog. I'm out of interesting things to say. This blog has evolved to be more of a diary than anything else.
I've just watched Yes Man earlier tonight, and I have to admit, its nothing close to a blockbuster, rather it was mediocre and predictable. But, there is always a pinch of sweetness in romantic comedies like this. There are only a few romantic comedies that could make it to my list, namely Prime, Dan In Real Life, Stranger than Fiction and of course... Yes Man. I think these movies portrays the typical and stereotypical man that changes to a more favourable character that would also be something that the viewer would like to achieve. That's what made these movies work.
In this movie, Jim Carrey plays an average man, who's alittle low in self esteem, declining offers from friends and feeling comfortable in his current condition, which isn't bringing him anywhere. His life turned around when he attended a motivational seminar who made him promise to say yes in every situation, and even made him believe that even saying yes to bad things may lead him to better things.
To be realistic, the story does not exactly portray a real life situation in any way, but made a point to ponder about: Have the society been setting you back from doing the things you've always wanted to do? Like screw the savings, just be spontaneous, do crazy things you never imagine you've done. I'd interpret the movie as: measuring how crazy you can go to achieve something. Like the movie makes you think back about just letting lose and be free
Well, it made me think that way, to actually think about the crazy things i did whether it was plain dumb or was it something that I SHOULD have done? Like this afternoon, we had a fire drill in the office and the appointed fire marshall said "do not break the glass from the emergency box until notified by the marshall" and I thought: what if i just wanna break it cos i've never done it before? Or maybe like going somewhere just to meet a person you think might be the one, despite everyone else telling you not to; you get the gist of it.
Well all I know is, I've made a few crazy decisions that I was thinking if I should decide on them or not. But after watching the movie, it kinda gave me the assurance to believe my decision was right afterall :)
P/S: I've visited your country before, but I think I'll make another stop there, as there are even much more to see now, and of course, you'd make a hell of a difference for me. I hope you feel the same way too.
How do you know if someone's a real friend? I'd like to judge that by how consistent their deed is. Take for example, if your friend, A, is a person who borrows you a pack of salt when you need to cook. You expect that A, unless his salt is out of stock, would always be there for you when you need salt. When A starts to decline offers to help when asked for salt, you yourself would know he may not be a friend who's always there for you. Just natural human behaviour: selfishness.
I believe this is how we see things. We expect people to consistently help us in things that falls within our expectation. We develop such feelings since birth. In our childhood, when we lived off our parents like parasites, we have set an expectations that family will always be there to help us, in almost everyway. Therefore, we develop the need to assess a friend through the deeds that they are likely to offer.
When I say that, I also mean that if A, gives you a pack of sugar at one point of time, and does not give you a pack of sugar at any other point of time, doesn't mean he doesn't help, but because it is not something you have expected A to provide, hence, there is no relation to whether he is a better friend or not.
But in a nutshell, we see a better friend in a person who is able to provide us comfort in a list of things we expect. In short, who will be there when we needed them. Selfish human nature.

Xmas this year is pretty interesting, being on the client side, social life gets better, suppliers, agencies start to buy us meals to maintain client-agency relationship, which is really good, cos we as employees get to save money while still able to enjoy good food
Am looking forward for CNY feast in 2009, but right now, let me share some photos from our recent Xmas outing @ Souled Out, Hartamas
